Yoga Detox workshop in France
On Sunday 1st of June 2025, the Yoga in Daily Life Centre in Massy, France, welcomed practitioners for a deeply enriching and purifying workshop titled Yoga Detox – Hatha Yoga Kriyas and the Yogic Diet.
The event was a true highlight, offering both ancient yogic techniques and practical lifestyle knowledge, and it was an honour to host Karmasanyas Tyagpuriji and Karmasanyas Yamunapuriji from the Sunshine Coast, Australia.
The Power of Purification in Hatha Yoga
Tyagpuriji opened the workshop by sharing profound insights into the role of purification techniques in hatha yoga by the Yoga in Daily Life System.
Traditionally, these hatha yoga kriyas are considered the foundation of yoga sadhana, as a cleansed body allows for greater flexibility, smoother flow of prana (life energy), improved concentration, and mental clarity – essential conditions for advancing in yoga practice.
Participants were guided through agnisara kriya and nauli, under Tyagpuriji’s meticulous and supportive instruction. These powerful abdominal exercises stimulate digestive fire and tone the internal organs.
Attendees then received an introduction to shanka prakshalana, a full intestinal cleansing technique. Although the complete kriya wasn’t performed, participants learned the preparatory exercises that form the foundation for practising it safely and effectively. This kriya is recommended to practise four times a year, traditionally at the change of season, to maintain digestive health and support the immune system.
The workshop also included instruction and practice in neti kriya, a method of purifying the nasal passages, particularly beneficial for those with respiratory allergies.
The sequence continued with kapala bhati pranayama, which energises the body, clears the sinuses and calms the mind.
The hatha yoga kriyas portion concluded with trataka, a candle-gazing practice that enhances visual clarity and inner awareness.
Sattvic Cooking and the Yogic Diet
Following a short break, Yamunapuriji led a practical and theoretical session on sattvic cooking, an essential part of the yogic lifestyle. She emphasized the impact of conscious food preparation on physical health, mental clarity and spiritual development. Participants learned key principles of sattvic cuisine and observed the preparation of a healthy, nourishing and delicious vegan lunch using simple, natural ingredients.
After chanting the traditional mantra of gratitude before the meal.
“Brahmārpaṇaṃ Brahma Havir Brahmāgnau Brahmaṇāhutaṃ
Brahmaiva Tena Gantavyaṃ Brahma Karma Samādhinā”
The group shared the meal in a joyful and harmonious spirit.
Empowered through Yogic Wisdom
This workshop left a lasting impression on all who attended. Participants expressed heartfelt appreciation for the clarity and attentiveness of the teachings, the depth and authenticity of the practices, and the warm, uplifting atmosphere throughout the day.
It offered a powerful yet accessible introduction to essential yogic detoxing techniques and sattvic dietary principles, equipping participants with practical tools to support their physical health, mental clarity and overall holistic well-being.
