A Summer of Yoga, Satsang and Spiritual Inspiration – Part 2

Gurupurnima – Honouring the Guru Parampara

The summer programme continued with one of the most significant spiritual celebrations of the year – Gurupurnima. Thousands of devotees gathered at Mahaprabhudeep Ashram in Strilky, Czechia, and OM Ashram in India to offer their love, gratitude and respect to Vishwaguruji and His successor, Swami Avatar Puri Ji.

Gurupurnima in Strilky

At Mahaprabhudeep Ashram in Strilky, Gurupurnima was marked by ceremonies, pujas, mantras and prayers honouring Vishwaguru Mahamandaleshwar Paramhans Sri Swami Maheshwarananda Puriji – Vishwaguruji – the guru and spiritual teacher who has been illuminating the path for millions of people around the world for more than 55 years.

Param Pujya Mahamandaleshwar Sri Swami Avatar Puri Ji celebrated together with Mahamandaleshwar Swami Vivek Puri Ji and many sannyasis of the Om Sri Alakhpuriji Siddha Peeth Parampara, joined by hundreds of devotees from all over Europe and further abroad.

The celebration offered an opportunity to express gratitude and devotion, and to honour the living connection between guru, disciple and spiritual tradition.

Gurupurnima at OM Ashram

Following the celebrations in Strilky, MM Sri Swami Avatar Puri Ji travelled to India to celebrate Gurupurnima at OM Ashram, in the presence of Vishwaguruji.

Thousands of devotees from India and around the world gathered to offer their love, gratitude and respect in person to Vishwaguruji and His successor, Swami Avatar Puri Ji.

Together, they represent the living continuation of the Guru Parampara, preserving and transmitting spiritual knowledge that guides seekers from ignorance towards wisdom, from darkness towards light, and ultimately towards the realisation of our true nature.

Mantra Diksha – The Light on the Spiritual Path

A Self-realised Master gives an effective spiritual mantra to the disciple. The Master imparts this mantra to those disciples who are sincerely committed to their spiritual development and strive for moksha – liberation or enlightenment. The mantra is given through the sacred ceremony of Mantra Diksha (mantra initiation).

A spiritual mantra guides us on the spiritual path, deepens our meditation and concentration, and helps us overcome inner fears and doubts. It can also support us in times of stress, anxiety, inner imbalance and difficult life circumstances.

The mantra is the “soul” of meditation. According to the teachings of Vishwaguruji, "meditation without mantra is like a body without a soul." In India, it is a longstanding tradition for a spiritual seeker to approach a guru and ask to receive a mantra.

During this year’s Gurupurnima festival, in the presence and with the blessings of Vishwaguruji, MM Sri Swami Avatar Puri Ji gave Mantra Diksha to five thousand people on the final day of the celebration.

For all those who received the mantra, this sacred initiation marks a personal step on the spiritual path – a commitment to deepen meditation, spiritual practice and inner development.

Special Gurupurnima Gifts

To mark the sacred occasion of Gurupurnima, the team of MM Sri Swami Avatar Puri Ji prepared special gifts for devotees – a portable wooden altar featuring the Om Sri Alakhpuriji Siddha Peeth Parampara, together with a collection of Quote Cards with inspiring words and teachings of MM Sri Swami Avatar Puri Ji.

Following tradition, all sannyasis also received an orange shawl and dakshina (donation) as an expression of respect and gratitude on this sacred occasion.

The gifts were presented as meaningful reminders of the Guru Parampara and of the spiritual inspiration shared throughout the Gurupurnima celebration.
