MM Swami Vivekpuriji explains Medhā Shakti

Workshop with Mahamandaleshwar Swami Vivekpuriji in Novi Sad, Serbia

On 25 October 2025, more than a hundred practitioners of Yoga in Daily Life gathered in Novi Sad, Serbia, to participate in the workshop Medhā Shakti – The Power of Inner Intelligence, led by Mahamandaleshwar Swami Vivekpuriji.e

The workshop explored how to awaken and strengthen Medhā Shakti, the subtle power of intelligence that enables clarity, discernment and the ability to make the right decision at the right time.

Understanding Medhā Shakti

Swami Vivekpuriji explained that Medhā Shakti (Sanskrit: मेधाशक्ति) means the power of intelligence, or the capacity for insight.

“It is not mere memory,” he said, “but the ability to discern the essence, to connect experiences, and to make the right decision at the right moment.”

Medhā Shakti is the grace of the Divine Shakti. From the Sahasrāra Chakra radiates the flow of this subtle force, the foundation of mental power, memory, clarity and true understanding.

When Medhā Shakti is strong, thoughts are clear, focus is steady, and decisions arise from understanding rather than emotion. As Swamiji reminded everyone:

“Everything that begins with emotion ends in disappointment.”

What Weakens and Drains Medhā Shakti

MM Swami Vivekpuriji pointed out several factors that diminish this inner power:

  • Stress, excitement and emotional outbursts
  • Noisy surroundings and mental restlessness
  • Anger, hatred, jealousy, old resentments, gossip, crying and shouting

When Medhā Shakti becomes depleted, the mind turns foggy, reactive and overly sensitive.

Restoring and Nourishing Medhā Shakti

To restore and nurture this subtle energy, MM Swami Vivekpuriji guided participants through yogic practices that harmonise body, breath, and mind.

He emphasised the importance of cultivating silence (mauna) and introduced techniques to strengthen clarity and presence:

  • Āsanas – especially inverted postures such as Shirshāsana, Sarvangasana, Viparitakarani Mudra, Yoga Mudra, Shashankasana, and Khatu Pranam
  • Agnisāra Kriyā and Prāṇāyāma (breathing techniques)
  • Mantra chanting
  • Reading spiritual literature

The First Step: Relaxation and Awareness

MM Swami Vivekpuriji emphasised that the awakening of Medhā Shakti begins not through effort, but through relaxation.

“When the body is tense and the mind is overwhelmed by emotions, Medhā withdraws. We begin simply – by relaxing the body, calming the breath, and letting go of what burdens us.”

Participants were guided to release tension and allow emotions to pass without
suppression or overanalysis, creating inner space for balance,  serenity and presence.

“Take a little time for yourself. Breathe. Sit comfortably.
Allow that feeling of lightness to arise in your heart – this is where the awakening of inner clarity begins.”

Medhā Shakti – The Power of Insight and Right Action

The second part of the workshop focused on a deeper experience, integrating asana, pranayama, mantra and meditation with the cultivation of right decision-making and a steady inner intelligence.

Through these practices, participants explored how spiritual awareness can directly support clarity in daily life, guiding actions rooted in wisdom, rather than impulse.

All participants expressed heartfelt gratitude to Mahamandaleshwar Swami Vivekpuriji for his detailed and inspiring words, and for the clear, practical instructions on how to awaken, strengthen, and sustain Medhā Shakti in everyday living.
